Why do I get excited about scuba diving?
Why did I fall in love with the ocean? Because I found a world of life that does not discriminate.
It doesn't care what colour you are, what sex you are, what culture you come from and whether you are rich or poor.
It accepted me with all my imperfections without question.
All are welcome.

I was on a diving holiday on the Red sea many years ago with some friends. We were on a wreck dive, the name of the wreck escapes me. As we approached the ghostly sillouette of the ship wreck it served me as a spooky reminder of a failed human endeavour. Life that once was now cast to history, the last resting place now slowly being reclaimed by the ocean. One day to be erased and lost in the echoes of time. We penetrated the wreck and went into a large cargo hold. As the four of us entered it suddenly filled with fish, fish everywhere. There was a handrail that had fallen across the middle of the hold, we all managed to hover while gently placing one finger on this rail to steady ourselves and watch the display that was unfolding all around us. Thousands of fish dancing around us in a chorus of moving light and colour. Larger fish were darting in and out to feed, each time they pounced it would start a chain reaction and all the other fish would react with such synchronicity you would be forgiven for thinking they all shared one collective consciousness. Shimmering with dancing light beams from the sun light that came down through the old exposed wooden rafters adding an atmospheric lazer effect to an already dazzling orchestra of light. Caught in the beauty of the moment it was hard not to feel emotional and closely connected with Mother nature. All these different species of fish morphing around us without touching us as if we were part of the ship. A ship encased in a huge deep blue tomb. While hovering next to each other we turned briefly and looked each other in the eye, just managing to see each others faces through the density of fish. Each with a smile and a nod we were knew we all shared the same thoughts.
I remember thinking: "Here I am so close to nature, surrounded by such beautiful mesmerising life and dancing light beams, while inside a sunken ship wreck at the bottom of the sea. This moment is just for us". After the dive we sat down and enjoyed a drink while sporting a large smile yet saying absolutely nothing. All in complete mental sync and agreement with each other about what we had just experienced.
It can be a mysterious ship wreck, a 12 meter long whale shark stopping inches from my face, looking into the eye of a apex predator as it glides past me or slowly flying over the edge of a 2000 meter drop off into the dark abyss below. It is moments like these that make my heart pound with joy, Its moments like these that give me a sense of adventure and exploration. It's moments like these that make me feel alive. Once you realise how intrinsically connected we all are and to our environment it will change the course of your life forever. Scuba diving gives you a different perspective of the planet and society. Below and above the waves. -Chad Sinden
This is why I love diving, It can be simply be magical.
